Items needed: Half of lemon, salt, warm water, sponge/cloth, bench scraper and a little elbow grease.
Frequency: Once a Month
Instructions: sprinkle salt onto the cutting board or counter. Using lemon with cut side down, rub and slightly squeeze the lemon so that juice will release while scrubbing. Let sit for 5 mins and then scrap off the dirty liquid into a small bowl using the bench scrapper. Rinse the surface with a clean wet sponge or cloth.
A wipe down with mild soap and water is also recommended after each use. Do not soak because the wood will soak in the water and only a dab of soap is needed.
To Sanitize: you can use a 3:1 ratio of water to vinegar solution.
For tougher stains: sprinkle baking soda over the stain and cover baking soda with lemon juice. The solution should bubble and be left to sit for at least 2 hours. Overnight sitting is best.
To keep butcher block beautiful: every few months, wipe your butcher block down with mineral oil and let sit overnight. Wipe off any excess.
Here is an example of wood stains. We don't carry the Red Alder, Cypress, Gum or Yellow Birch woods.
